The left side of this round pendant is a large crescent moon, filled up in a playful way with all sorts of cut-out curlicues and scrolls. In the round space to the right, left over from the crescent, sits the profile of a watchful cat whose attention seems to be drawn to something outside the pendant. He looks content because his tail is happily curled upward, which in his own small way counter-balances the curve of the crescent moon. It also spills over a little bit onto the tip of the crescent.
There is a balance in the asymmetry of the cat and moon that adds an interesting touch to the arrangement.
Spirits often manifest themselves in animal forms so they can provide humans with companionship, guidance, love, and protection. Cats are one of the familiars or animal spirits who are often associated with witches, for example.
